Myra Blackmon, APR, President
Myra Blackmon, APR, President, founded her own firm in 1993. She holds a journalism degree from the University of Georgia. Her background includes sales, investments, management, fundraising and business development. She has worked for two major national nonprofit organizations and a Fortune 100 investment firm. In addition to more than thirty years experience, Ms. Blackmon is accredited by the Public Relations Society of America.
Ms. Blackmon's expertise has been recognized throughout the Southeast where she has served as a guest lecturer at major universities and held adjunct faculty positions at the Universities of South Carolina and Georgia. She has been selected as a speaker at the 2002 Association of Small Business Development Centers National Conference, the Georgia Women's Entrepreneurs Network Conference and for the "Building Better Boards" Conference of the Nonprofit Governance and Management Centre in Sydney, Australia.
Community activities have long been a part of her life. Ms. Blackmon is currently serving a second three-year term as President of Girl Scouts of Northeast Georgia and has been tapped for the Task Force planning the 2005 National Girl Scout Council Meeting. She has chaired several major fund-raising efforts and serves as an Ambassador for the Habitat for Humanity Women's Build in Athens. She has just been named one of two businesswomen to serve on the advisory board of the Georgia Women's Entrepreneurs Network.
Ms. Blackmon served as an officer of both the Georgia and South Carolina Chapters of the Public Relations Society of America. She is the professional advisor for the University of Georgia's Public Relations Student Society of America. From a nomination made by students, Ms. Blackmon was presented the national Dr. Frederick Teahan Award for Outstanding Professional Advisor.
Ms. Blackmon is actively involved with her alma mater and served on the inaugural advisory board for the University's alumni magazine. With her husband, Dr. Thomas P. Holland, Ms. Blackmon does organizational development consulting with a variety of nonprofit organizations around the nation. Their book, Measuring Board Effectiveness, was recently published by the National Center for Nonprofit Boards (now BoardSource).
Her other memberships and activities include the University Roundtable, Athens Area Chamber of Commerce, Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation, and the Girl Scout Gold Reserve. She is active in her church and has held several leadership positions there.
